Steve Claridge on Thatcham and Luke Holmes
Manager Steve Claridge spoke today about the upcoming Emirates FA Cup game against Thatcham Town FC and the release of Luke Holmes.
"I went to watch Thatcham on Tuesday night and they were excellent, they won three-nil and it could have been more. We will need to be at our very best to get something from the game. It looked like a really difficult surface to get the ball down and pass on but they played it very well, getting the ball forward very early and relying on the two front players, who work very hard to get hold of the ball and play from there. They’re well organised and we will have to make sure that we’re ready to match them all over the pitch if we’re to get a result.
"Unfortunately, one player who won’t be part of the team is Luke Holmes who has decided that the environment with regard to the expectation and pressure he found himself in meant he felt he wasn’t strong enough to deal with that. I’m disappointed but Luke has reiterated that it’s nothing to do with us as a football club, more that he doesn’t feel mentally strong enough for this sort of challenge. The club and I wish him all the best."
