YOUTH - Tournament 2019 - What a Weekend
A weekend 900+ players won't forget in a while, but it doesn't just happen by magic.
With over 100 teams from as far a field as Cardiff had a day to remember at the Ray Mac over the weekend. Teams from under 7's to under 14's enjoyed playing on the pitch in what turned out to be an excellent weekend of football.
As enjoyable as it is, there is an awful lot of hard work that goes into making it all happen. Salisbury FC Youth would like to thank a few of the many volunteers that contributed to making the event a tremendous success.
Firstly starting on the Friday evening our normal motley crew of line markers consisting of Richard Rendall, Mark Sommerton and Chris Burden where joined by a new apprentice in Alfie Hawke whom this year replaced the aging Michael Easterbrook to mark out the pitches. The best moment of this phase of the proceedings was when Chris was late, Mark was asked to take on Chris's normal job of driving the line marker. Mark's response was priceless, "he wont be happy if I do that will he". Mark he is never happy is he...so what difference will it make.....
A big thank you must go to the Jackson family, Tracy, Rhiannon, Alun and Roger Stevens whom where at the Ray Mac from 8-8 both days over the weekend and were amazing help. Likewise SFC Ladies coach Mark Steele who did his part simply to help the club out. Always does, top man.
Michaela Winter and Jo Brooker in the office made sure everything ran smooth, even when we had no shows or extra teams turning up, nothing phased them.....well not much.
Gary Hayward and the ever present Anna Hawke were helped out by Giles Lewis in tea hut 1 all weekend and were lets call it 'snowed under' all weekend but never stopped smiling. Also to Donna Roocroft and the U13 parents, a shout out to you for taking on the job of manning the cake and sweet stall for the whole weekend - top team.
Lastly thanks to all our coaches that put in a shift over the weekend, be it on car park duty, building up goals or picking up the litter, it all needs to be done to ensure the weekend goes smoothly.
When you get home to a inbox full of thank you emails and praise from the teams that attended, then you know it was all worthwhile.
Just want to say what a well run and enjoyable tournament it was today. Refs were brilliant and some really good football on show. We’ll be back next year
Good evening Mark.
Just wanted to drop you a note to say a massive thank you and congratulations on a brilliant tournament yesterday. We all had a great time and the boys were buzzing even though we didn't quite make the semi-finals.
Please pass on our thanks to the rest of the tournament organisers and we look forward to hopefully playing again next year!
