The development squad start their Wiltshire Senior league campaign this Saturday when Swindon based Purton Football Club visit the Ray Mac.

If you’re not travelling up to Met Police on Saturday, come along and support the squad in what is bound to be a tough encounter to start the season. That support is going to be vital on and off the pitch to enable the Dev to be as close to financially self-sufficient as possible.

Mark Winter says about the season ahead, with the fact we have to go back to the 2018/19 season (the last one that actually finished) to get an impression of where Purton potentially are out of the teams in the league, it really is irrelevant. They finished 6th that year and have looked there or thereabouts each time the following seasons have been curtailed but this is a new one.

I am sure the opposition like ourselves and almost all the managers I have spoken to during pre-season have found it the hardest ever pre-season to get any traction. What with players out isolating, or having covid, then add a first holiday opportunity for 16 months or more and we have never had the same 11 out on the pitch so far. But being honest that’s not going to change for the immediate future for all teams I imagine, so the old cliché that it is a squad game is going to really be tested this season.
