This Tuesday the Ray Mac hosts the Development v Melksham Town in the Wilts league in a 7:45 kick off.
This season the Whites 2nd string have managed to get Devon Arnold, Layton Tulk, Owen Taylor and Alfie Hawke through and into the 1st team to different degree’s. We welcome all those players back into the squad for our final two fixtures, starting Tuesday and ending on Saturday again back here on home turf.
The last time these two sides met I think it is fair to say the Whites put in one of their most impressive 45 minutes of attacking football all season in the 2nd half at Melksham. An even 1st half saw the hosts take the lead before Reece McSorley levelled just before the break.
A few words at half time clearly had a massive effect and five unanswered goals in a blistering 2nd half attacking display left Melksham wondering what had hit them. 2 goals from Arnold and a hattrick from Layton Tulk literally blew the opposition away like a steam train.
The Whites started the last weekend 12th in the table. A victory at Purton lifted us to 9th and two wins in our final two games this week could lift us to 5th. 5th place had we applied for promotion would qualify given no other teams have applied for promotion.
That said 5th is by no means going to be easy to achieve. Melksham themselves could snatch 5th with a win and find themselves 2 places above the whites in the table going into this game. And that’s before we talk about Wootton Bassett whom we face on Saturday. RWB where crowned league champions last Saturday after a tense 1-0 win over 2nd place Pewsey. The dev took a weakened side to RWB very early in the season and went down 2-1 to the hosts.
Anyway we would appreciate all the support we can get this week in these final two fixtures. I think I can fairly confidently promise you goals, a warm welcome and the comfort that your entry money goes to the club to support the development squad.
I think we have all seen the value having the development can bring to the club this season and given in a couple of our last 4 fixtures our man of the match has been an under 16 player, I have no doubt given the support from the club and the fans we can carry on bringing through very good young local players for a good few years to come.
